THREATS OF LYNCH LAW

The officers who aTe taking the accused man to Wichita are following a zigzag course through Oklahoma, attempting to reach a safe penitentiary before they are intercepted by the mob. Meanwhile the Governor of Oklahoma has ordered the militia to be mobilised and has commanded them to shoot to kill if necessary to prevent a lynching. The body of one of the victims, Mrs Harry Pritchard, was. found under, a roadside bridge. The others have not yet been recovered. Various parts of the mob, In motor-oars, have been reported throughout the countryside, but the exact whereabouts of the main body is not known. (An earlier message said that the police throughout the State and Oklahoma were organising to prevent the threatened lynching of a man arrested on a charge of kidnapping and murdering three persons who disappeared several weeks ago. According to reports from Oklahoma, where the accused man was arrested, he admitted killing a married couple and a friend, and disposing of the bodies to a water well. A lynching mob was organised and started to i a fleet of motor-cars to intercept the motor convoy bringing the prisoner to Wichita. They purchased a rope and announced that they would lynch the prisoner as soon as they found him. The police organised a relief posse, which hurried to prevent the lynching.)
