Though communications have been severed in many areas, a rigorous censorship is operating from Barcelona. The rising spread from town to town, village to village like wild fire, the anarchists seizing the town halls, and cutting the electric wires, and plunging the countryside into darkness. Troops and police raced to the storm centres but were unable to stop the extensive damage. The insurrection has broken out at San Sebastian, and bombings and street firing are prevalent. The railway to Paris was cut. Similar conditions prevail with neighbouring towns. Anarchists began firing upon the troops attempting to seize the municipal buildings without success. The Catalan Socialists and Workers General Union have issued a manifesto saying they are not in favour of the present uprising, but in the event of a dictatorship of the Right Party getting into power, they are prepared to stage a counter revolution. The Prime Minister (Senor Barrios) admits that the rising is well organised and financed. It is fostered by clever propaganda, but the Government is ready for anything that may happen. Though the Anarchist and Syndicalist rioting is alarmingly widespread, the Government claims that its authority is not endangered. The revolutionary movement in Granada initiated widespread incendiary Jlres, started simultaneously in 15 places. The firemen were unable to cope with all. Several churches were destroyed. Bombs exploded in several parts of Madrid. Two were killed and two injured. The Minister of Labour estimates that 100 were killed and 300 injured in the week-end disturbances. The rebels dynamited a bridge near Valencia, and a train was plunged to destruction. Five were killed and 40 injured. Revolutionary Activity. Though the War Minister has declared the army is loyal, two corporals will be charged with inciting the Burgos garrisons to rebel. The Government declares itself in possession of all the revolutionaries’ plans. All telephonic communication between London and Spain was cut off at 10 p.m., but the cable service ts normal. A cruiser lies in Ferrol harbour continuously playing its searchlights on the town. The anarchists and syndicalists have issued a manifesto indicating an attempt to seize power, occupy the dwellings of the wealthy, confiscate their property and take over the factories.
