DEPARTURE TO-DAY. Bv I‘e!egrapb—Press Association WELLINGTON, December 11. The members of the Byrd Antarctic expedition were ordered to-night to be prepared to turnout at 4 a.m. to-mor-row to complete the final preparations for the departure of the Jacob Rup- | pert direct for the Ross Sea. The ship J will sail about 7 o'clock on the long j run to the Antarctic. On the eve of his departure, RearAdmiral Byrd expressed his thanks to all who had given him assistance. To Lord Bledisloe he expressed his sincere thanks for the kindly interest and courtesy’ shown to the expedition; to the Prime Minister he wished to express his deep appreciation of the help which had been accorded to himself and the members of the expedition through various Government departments. and to the people of New Zea- | land generally for the hospitable man- i ner in which they had been received, j If they were people of his own country i they could not have been kinder nor j done more.
