DESTROYED BY FIRE
LORRY AND AEROPLANE. By relffrrn >h—Press Association TE AWAMUTU, December 11. j The Moth aeroplane which caused ! excitement at Te Rapa on Saturday by j careering round the aerodrome is now . a twisted mass of burned wreckage on I the roadside half a mile north of j Ohaupo. This morning the Western Federated Flying Club sent a motor lorry from New Plymouth for the damaged machine, and the return journey was in progress when the fire occurred. The lorry driver (Williams) was accompanied by the engineer to the club. The aeroplane was mounted on the lorry with a benzine drum containing the contents drained from the tanks of the machine. All went well till negotiating a hill when Williams noticed in the reflector a sudden glare of light and within a few moments the aeroplane and truck were a blazing mass. Both were totally destroyed and stand a twisted mass of ■wreckage on the roadside.
