Dr J. Campbell Begg passed through Timaru on his way south on Saturday. A cable message from Sydney announces that Alderman A. L. Parker, has been elected Lord Mayor of Sydney in succession to Alderman Hagon. The Rev. A. K. Warren, M.A. fOxon >. Vicar of Waimate. has accepted the living of St. Mary's Merivale. to become vacant owing to the resignation of Archdeacon Haggitt, who is going to Nelson. Bishop Brodie. who conducted a Confirmation Service yesterday morning at the Church . of the Immaculate Conception, was a guest at the Geraldine Catholic Presbytery during the week-end. At the first meeting of the new Tramway Board, the Rev. J. K. Archer wns elected chairman, and Mr E J. Howard, M.P, deputy-chairman. There were no other nominations. Mr Howard stated that the new Board would set to work immediately to examine the whole operations of the service. At the end of the year banquet held at the Rectory at the Boys’ High School on Friday night, opportunity was taken to make a presentation of a set of fruit spoons and forks to Mr A. Simmers, on the eve of his approaching marriage. The presentation was made by R. Burnett on behalf of the Rectory boys, the speaker wishing Mr Simmers every success and happiness in the future.
