WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
STUDHOLME. There was a large attendance at the October meeting of the Studholme Women's Institute. Mrs W. Hayman presided and welcomed members of the Waihao Women’s Institute, who later gave a very entertaining programme. Mrs Hunter exhibited a beautiful specimen of wool art work. The president congratulated several members on their success at the Waimate spring show. It was decided that Mrs Kippenberger and Mrs Murray visit any sick or needy in the district. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Mary Cox for her kindness in typing the six months’ programme. It was decided to send to "Home and Country” the play “Mrs McSwigan and the Rifle Club” written by Mrs Cliff Rollinson and acted by Mesdames A. Young, C. Rollinson, F. Saundeis and Miss J. Fletcher at the Women's Institute concert. Competitions resulted. — Knitted gloves: Mrs F. Rollinson 1. Mrs Kelly 2. Fabric gloves: Mrs H. Hayman 1. Specimen blooms: Mrs G. Murray 1, Mrs Tomlinson 2, Miss V. Murray 3. Kitchen cushion from a sugar bag: Mrs Rollinson senr. and Mrs C Rollinson equal 1, Henshaw 2, Mrs H. Hayman 3. Specimen blooms: Mrs Young 1, Mrs T. Hayman 2, Mrs Taylor 3. Afternoon tea was served. WAIHOARUNGA. The monthly meeting of the Waihoarunga Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs Burson. The president (Miss P. Whatman) presided. A letter was received from the Little Wanganui Women's Institute inviting Waihoarunga to link up with it which it was decided to do. Several gifts were brought to be forwarded on to the lepers. The competition, flowers arranged for effect in a 21b jar was won by Mrs Coumbe with Miss P. Whatman second. The specimen bloom competition was won by Mrs Cooling with a pink double stock and Mrs Hurst was second with a tulip. -he hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Bell, Mrs Elderton and Mrs Hurst.
