LEAK IN STORAGE TANK
NIGHT OF ANXIETY AT GLEBE POINT RESIDENTS FEAR SERIOUS EXPLOSION United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received October 22, 11.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 22. After a week-end of anxiety, many residents in Glebe Point and neighbourhood, still are apprehensive lest an appalling explosion may wreck tbeir houses and probably cost many lives. Yesterday it was discovered that the Purr-Pull Company's storage tank had developed a leak. Efforts were made to remedy the trouble, and police and firemen took precautions to prevent fire, as many thousands of gallons of petrol had escaped, the fumes from which added to the menace. The efforts were continued till to-night, and the position is still so serious that ail trams and other traffic in the neighbourhood have stopped, and fires are not allowed. The leakage is understood to be from a cracked pipe-line. There is a suspicion of foul play.
