BRITISH GOODS AMENDED DUTIES DESIRED. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, October 20. Representations were made to the Tariff Commission to-day by Mr A. W. Hawley, on behalf of the Federation of British Industries for amendments to the existing tariff in respect of electric refrigerators, oilskin garments, combs and ophthalmic lenses. In support of the application in respect to lenses. Mr Hawley emphasises the importance of the optical industry to the Empire as a whole and the fact that United Kingdom lens manufacturers were competent to meet the whole of the New Zealand demand in a satisfactory manner as regards both quantity and quality. Further requests were made to the Commission by representatives of British trading Arms. The chief was in regard to biscuits, the removal of the duty of 20 per cent, being sought.
