ULM SETS NEW RECORD
MEMORABLE FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA NOTABLY SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENT United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, October 20. The Amalgamated Wireless has received a message stating that Mr C. T. P. Ulm landed safely at Derby, at 12.15 this morning (Western Australian time). The 'plane, “Faith in Australia," took 6 days 17 hours 45 minutes; thus Mr Ulm and his companions have beaten Sir Charles Kingsford Smith’s record by 11 hours 2 minutes. All the party are fit and very jubilant. They are dressed in shirts and shorts. Mr Ulm plans to leave Derby this evening, reaching Sydney in a nonstop flight, to-morrow afternoon. FLIGHT COMPARISON. “SMITHY’S” SOLO EFFORT UNBEATEN. British Official Wireless RUGBY, October 19. Mr Ulm. flying an Avro high-wtag monoplane, reached Derby at 12.15 a.m. on Friday, beating the record set up eight days ago by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith. The latter’s record still holds for a solo flight, as Mr Ulm had three companions—Messrs Allen and Taylor (co-pilots), and Mr Edwards (navigator).
