TYCHO. At the October meeting of the Tycho Women’s Institute, Mrs Morrison presided over a good attendance and welcomed several visitors. Mrs Smith and Mrs McPhedran were cho;:n as delegates to attend the half-yearly Federation meeting. The president introduced Miss Ferguson, Temuka, who demonstrated the making of seagrass stools. Miss Brown gave a talk on Chelsea Gardens. These were both very interesting and a vote of thanks to Miss Ferguson and .Miss Brown, proposed by Mrs McLeod, was carried. The roll-call tvas “My pet economy." The competition results were:— Smocking, Mrs Smith 1. Miss May Morrison 2, Mrs McLeod 3. Jam-tarts, Mrs A. Marshall 1, Mrs C. Talbot 3, Mrs Smith 3. Narcissi, Mrs McPhedran 1, Miss McPhedran 2, Mrs F. Armstrong 3. Specimen bloom, Mrs Mope : .'.ran. A memory test, arranged by Mrs Smith was won by Mrs McPhedran. ST. ANDREWS. At the monthly meeting of the St. Andrews Women's Institute, Miss N. Begg presided over a fair attendance. Miss Begg and Miss Midgley were appointed delegates to the half yearly Federation meeting in Timaru. Arrangements are being made for the children's Christmas party. The Ir-titute picnic is to* be held at “Scotson,” St. Andrews on the first Saturday in January. During the afternoon two interesting and practical demonstrations were given, the first by Mrs W. Mills on plaster of Paris work, and the second by Miss Knox on raffia work. Both instructors had some beautiful articles on display. A vote of thanks was passed to the demonstrators. Folk dancing which was enjoyed by all, was given by members of the circle under the leadership of Miss Slattery and Miss Knox. The competitions judged by Mrs D. Stowell and Mrs P. Dix resulted:— Decorated sandwich cake, Miss Lois Dellow 1, Miss M. Russell 2. Bowl of spring flowers, Mrs Bell 1, Miss Midgley 2. Premier bloom, Miss D. Bell.
