PACIFIC SHIPPING
UNFAIRNESS OF STATE-SUB-SIDISED LINES. DOMINION'S MAY TAKE ACTION. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright CANBERRA. October 19. It is believed that negotiations between the Commonwealth Government and the New Zealand Government led to a point from which decisive action can be taken to protect Australian and New Zealand shipping in the Pacific from unfair competition by United States-owned vessels. The Federal Ministry desires that all restrictions should be abolished. It is believed that the United States Government is unlikely to co-operate in this course, and it is therefore probable that the impending adjustment of the situation will take the form of provision by the Governments of Australia and New Zealand of restrictions on United States shipping, similar to those imposed by the United States’ authorities on Australian and New Zealand ships.
