REQUESTS TO TARIFF COMMISSION. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON. October 19. The poultry industry occupied the Tariff Commission to-day. long evidence being given by Mr McLean, organiser and secretary of the New Zealand Poultry Association. The Association sought the retention of the existing customs tariff and conditions relative to eggs in shell, egg pulp and white, or yolk of eggs, and the maintenance of the existing provision for the free admission of pollard, bran, crushed maize and barley for stock food purposes. The Association also asked for the abolition of the existing sliding scale of duty on fowl wheat. If, in the opinion of the Commission, such wheat should oe subject to a duty the rate should not exceed 20 per cent, ad valorem. It was contended that the conditions requested were essential to the welfare and development of the poultry industry and in the Interests of the Dominion.
