WAIMATAITAI SCHOOL FAIR

MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE. A well attended meeting of the general committee of the Waimataitai School fair was held on Monday evening, Mr George Benstead presiding. Reports presented indicated that preparations for the fair had been advanced considerably by the stallholders and the executive. The enthusiasm of the school children, whose preliminary efforts to date had resulted in the amount of £76/3/5 being in hand, had been an added incentive to the committee to give of its best in the interests of the fair. That sum was not, however, to be the culmination of the children's efforts as they, at the moment, were preparing for and exploiting other money-making schemes which it was believed, would materially increase their present return. Letters were received from the Mayor (Mr T. W. Satterthwaite) notifying his pleasure in acceding to the request to open the fair, and from Mr C. L. Carr, M.P., extending good wishes for its successful issue. Further correspondence dealt with the additional lighting of the school and grounds for the carrying on of the fair throughout the evening hours of the fair days and a quotation for this and illuminated string of lights was received from the Municipal Electricity Department and accepted. Certain requisitions by stallholders and the allocations of sites for various stalls and exhibits were referred to the various executives for attention.
