THE GOLF CLUB ANNUAL REPORT The following is the annual report of the Waimate Golf Club to be presented at the annual meeting:— In presenting its report for the year the committee again records further satisfactory progress. During the year eight new members joined the club and nine resignations were received, mostly owing to transfers from the district. The membership as at the end of the season totalled 51 active members, including two country members and three junior members. he usual “home and away" matches with Oamaru and Timaru were played, the club’s teams being successful in three games, the only match lost being against Oamaru at Oamaru. The club was represented in the Bristol Cup competition in Timaru, in which it gained third place. The club competitions resulted:— Championship, T. A. Wilson: runnerup, J. C. Templer; B grade championship, B. O’Hara; Francis Cup, G. Aitken; John Dewar's Cup, A. Sawell; match competition, T. Healey. The tree planting scheme mentioned in the last report was highly successful, the losses of trees being negligible. The total cost of the scheme was £55/0/9, of which £33/8/6 is represented by fencing material. During the season a fairways mower was purchased at a cost of £2B 4/6. This has now been put into operation and the resulting improvement in the fairways is manifest. Continued use of the machine during the next few months should make conditions for play during the summer most enjoyable and at the same time it is expected that the fairways will be greatly improved. Finance. The financial position has again improved, the balance of assets over liabilities having increased during the year from £348/0/6 to £386 3/11 of which £177/7/11 is represented by cash in hand. No allowance has been made in this for the large amount of money which has been expended on the present links since August, 1930, totalling approximately £357. The expenses for the year were £292/6/10, of which £205/6/7 was for ordinary maintenance work and incidental expenses and £B7/0/3 for further permanent improvements and plant. The receipts total £322/4/1 the main items being men’s subscriptions £144/18/-, ladies’ club contributions £92/4/6, green fees £l9/7/- and grazing fees £2O/15/-. In conclusion the committee desires to thank the members of the Ladies’ Club for their assistance during the year, Mr J. J.
