TIMARU CIRCUIT. The quarterly meeting of the Methodist Circuit was held in the Banks’ Street Church, the Rev. J. D. McArthur presiding over a record attendance of delegates from all parts of the circuit. The membership returns were presented and were considered to be satisfactory'. On the occasion of the SundaySchool anniversary special collections for Sunday School purposes were authorised in each of the following places—Banks Street, October 15, Woodlands Street November 12. Kensington and Waimataitai November 26. Fairview December 3, Pareora Lower on a date to be arranged. Christmas services were authorised at Banks Street and Woodlands Street, and on the occasion of these services the special offerings would be for the South Island Methodist Orphanage. The Home Mission secretary reported that the effort for this year was completed, the amount of £IOO 6s 3d being received. A special Foreign Mission Committee was elected as follows: Messrs C. W. Keenan, T. E. Holdgate. J. R. Day, Miss I. Harris, with ministers ex officio The senior circuit steward extended an invitation to the superintendent minister to remain for a second year. Mr McArthur intimated that he would be very happy- to accept the invitation. The co-steward Mr W. J. Roseveare, in extending an invitation to the Rev. H. L. Fiebig to remain for a fourth year, referred to the excellent work being done by Mr Fiebig and stated it was the desire of all that Mr Fiebig should not think of shifting next year. Mr Fiebig acknowledged the warmth of the greeting and in accepting the invitation stated that he had had a very happy ministry in Timaru and would be delighted to remain for a fourth year. The third minister the Rev. T. Carr intimated that lie would be changing at the end of the current year. The meeting authorised the su;>erintendent and Conference to fill the vacancy which will arise. The following delegates were elected to represent the circuit at the District Svnod to be held In Timaru next month: Mrs R R McAlister. Messrs C W. Keenan, H H. Brown, R. Irwin: substitute delegates. Mr C. T H. Right. Mr B H. Low. Mr W. Ellis. Miss Webb. Messrs W. Anderson and E C. J Foot were re-elected the circuit auditors. The meeting took the opportunity to place on record its deep appreciation

of the fact that Mr John Holdgate had been re-elected choir master of Banks Street choir for the thirty-first year in succession. It was stated that Mr Holdgate had been a member of the choir for 56 years. The members showed their appreciation in marked applause. Mr Holdgate suitably acknowledged the greetings. Resolutions of sympathy were carried with a number of friends who were ill. The membership returns presented showed a senior membership in the circuit of 564. Resolutions of sympathy were carried with the following, who had suffered bereavement: Mrs Burrell, Mrs Webb, Mrs Sides, Mr J. Radcliffe. It was decided vigorously to pursue the envelope system with a view to stabilising the finance and, in addition, that circuit and trust moneys be kept separate.
