Manchukuo troops are concentrating at Hailar, 110 miles west of Manchulia. M. Slavatsky, the Soviet ConsulGeneral, has lodged his fifth protest concerning the detention of Soviet railway employees, and is again demanding their release. Commerce and trade at Harbin is completely at a standstill, while the population anxiously awaits the solution of the present impasse. RECENT BOOK CRITICISED. The “Daily Mail” says that Mr O Conroy's book is the darkest picture of Japan anyone has yet painted. "Mr O'Conroy would try our credulity less if he had given the other side of the picture. The book, from first to last, is full of virulent bias, which puts readers on their guard.”
