COMBATTING CLUB ROOT
TURNIP EXPERIMENT AT MURCHISON. By TelegraDQ association NELSON, June 24. Remarkable success has followed the 1 ecommendations of Dr. Freeman, of the Nelson branch of the Department of Agriculture, in connection with swede crops in the Murchison district, where club root disease was prevalent last year. Dr. Freeman recommended the herning variety. One crop of this variety was grown on an area approaching thirty acres with good results, while alongside, on the same farm, turnips failed owing to club root disease. As this district is dependent largely on root crops for winter feed, the success of this variety is of much importance.
