WHITE BUTTERFLY
NATURAL ENEMY EFFECTIVE. By Telegraph—Press Association PALMERSTON N„ June 24. Mr J. Muggerldge, Government entomologist at the Plant Research Station, stated to-day that there is now strong ground for the belief that the white butterfly will eventually effectively be controlled by its natural enemies. The suer—s achieved in establishing the pupal parasites of the pest in Hawke’s Bay is by far the most promising and most significant d lopment since the work of control was started. It appears that one parasite at ler._is making its presence felt to a r.rkable degree. It was not anticipated at this juncture to find anything more tha:- possibly a few parasitica' puparia in the field. It is, t'lerefc-e. astounding to find 50 or 60 per cent, collected, quite at random, in the vicinity of crops where liberations were made earlier for effective establishment. Only two or three per cent, war expected.
