ARNE BORG AGAIN
SENSATIONAL COME-BACK Arne Borg, of Sweden, ex-1500 metres Olympic champion and present holder of the 500 yards, 1000 yards, and 1 mile world’s record, who turned professional after the 1928 Games, and who afterwards became so crippled by rheumatism that he could only hobble around on crutches, has made one of the most sensational recoveries known to medical science. Latest news of the famous swimmer is to the effect that he has not only completely shaken off all effects of his attack of rheumatism, but is now a speedier swimmer than ever. Recently Borg was officially credited with having swum 400 metres in 4min 44sec, not only establishing a new professional record, but bettering by three seconds the listed world’s record of 4.47 by Frenchman Jean Taris. Borg is now challenging the world to swim any distance from 200 metres to a mile, and already American sports promoters are angling for a match over a series of distances between Borg and the world-famous Johnny Weissmuller. Chances are, however, that Weissmuller finds acting In talkies more congenial and profitable.
