DOGGED BY ILL-LUCK

Mrs Hilda Bonney, the Australian, who left Darwin on April 15 to fly in a light airplane to England, has met with ill-luck during the later stages of the flight. Her flight was uneventful until she left Singapore, after a day’s delay from slight illness, on April 19. She passed Alor Star safely on her way to Rangoon, but made a forced landing at Baihang, about 30 miles from Victoria Point. Her machine was damaged, and she was not found until April 23. Mrs Bonney then went to Calcutta, where the necessary repairs were undertaken, but though the machine was ready on May 16 she was delayed because of some difficulty in obtaining permits to fly over Persia and Turkey. Eventually she left on May 25, and arrived at Karachi on May 27, where she was further delayed for a few days while her compass was adjusted. Leaving Karachi on June 2, she arrived at Shaibah on June 4, whence she was reported to be leaving for Bagdad. The last heard of her was from Aleppo on June 5, when it was reported that she had left for Istambul.
