Miss Joan . Thompson, Beverley House, left on Thursday for Dunedin. Miss O’Brien, Orbell Street, has returned from a visit to Dunedin. Mrs Basil Shaw, Albury Park, who was staying with Mrs Bernard Tripp, “Orielton,” returned home yesterday.

Mrs A. Jackson, Wai r iti Road, will leave to-day to spend a few days in Christchurch.

Mrs W. F. Hamilton. Ashwiek Station. Fairlie, left the Grand yesterday for Christchurch. The Rev. E. A. Osmers and Mrs Osmers, Methven, will arrive to-day to stay with Mrs A. Shirtcliff, Highfield. Mrs R. Fowler, Christchurch, who is staying with Mrs F. F. A. Ulrich, Elizabeth Street, will leave to-day to stay with Mrs Burden. Woodbury.

Mrs J. D. Mackenzie, Vancouver, who was the guest of Mrs R. I. F. Ritchie, Dunedin, arrived yesterday to stay with Mrs W. T. Ritchie, Te Tawa.

The sisters had had no previous experience when appointed. The appointment was considered a daring experiment, and even to-day women actuaries are rare. The Grantham Bank began to boom, said the sisters, when amalgamated with the York County Bank in 1917, this bringing about greater facilities, extended business hours, and a higher rate of interest. “We tried to encourage children to be thrifty through the penny banks and schools,” said one. “We had a lot of depositors who came regularly with small amounts, which, when they reached a good sum, were generally taken out to buy a car or a house.” Miss I. M. Hardwick said: “It has been extraordinarily interesting work, and 30 years of the greatest happiness. A trustees savings bank is so very interesting because you can help people in so many ways and specially by advising them.” DANCE AT PLEASANT VALLEY.
