BOOTS FOR UNEMPLOYED
RETAILERS’ PROTEST. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, June 8. The policy of the Unemployment Board in purchasing direct from manufacturers footwear for distribution to unemployed workers and dependents, was fully discussed at a meeting of the Wellington Drapers’, Clothiers’, Mercers’ and Boot Retailers’ Association yesterday. It was resolved: “That we strongly protest against any further attempts at Government interference in business, and view the action of the Unemployment Board in letting a contract for boots as a serious menace to retail traders, and that this mass meeting registers its strong disapproval of any i of this principle.” The Minister and chairman of the Unemployment Board are being approached on the matter.
