TIMARU BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Timaru branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday Present: Mesdames F. F. A. Ulrich (in the chair), C. Holdgate, H. J. Brewer W. Hall, C. Hall. V. C. Meehan, J Wilson, F. G. Raymond, M. A. Raymond, T. W. Satterthwaite, F. Lewis. W. Raymond. A. Wigley, C. S. Bruce and W. B. Shand. Accounts were passed for payment amount'ng to £4l/3/9. Nurse Murphy reported that 30 new cases had been dealt with during May. Visits to rooms totalled 657 (adults 356 babies 265, older children 36); and visits to homes numbered 249, 53 being new cases. Eighty-five telephone calls were received. One baby was sent to Karitane Hospital for two weeks, and returned home much improved. There had been a considerable number of colds, but other than that, the health of the babies had been quite satisfactory. The secretary read a letter from Mrs J. C. Oddie, asking the committee to accept her resignation. The secretary was asked to write to Mrs Oddie. accepting her resignation with much regret. The president said that Mrs Oddie had been connected with the Society for the .last twenty years, and it was unanimously agreed to record appreciation of Mrs Oddie’s work as an ex-vice-president. executive and comm'ttee member. The president •'aid that Miss Lindsay, matron of the Public Hospital, would be the speaker at the annual meeting on 16th inst. Final arrangements for the afternoon tea for the mothers were made. It was agreed to ask the Plunket Nurses to put down the names of those mothers now on the books, and also those who had attended the rooms in recent years, who intended to accept the committee’s invitation to be present, so that the committee would have some idea of how many to cater for. The president said that as this function had not been previously held in Timaru, it was hoped a large number of mothers and friends would come along A circular letter was read stating that in the conduct of all Plunket nursing work, close co-operation with the medical profession was the invari- | able rule of the Society. Neither diagnoses nor treatment of any abnormal condition came within the province cf a Plunket Nurse. In order to ensure that the Society’s policy was strictly adhered to, the Council decided to issue forms to be used whenever the Plunkt Nurse considered that the mother should seek medical advicec. These forms were shown and explained to the : committee. As Mrs Ulrich intends retiring from the presidency at the annual meeting, Mrs R. J. Brewer spoke in appreciative terms of the manner in which Mrs Ulrich had filled the position during the past year. Mrs Ulrich thanked Mis ; Brewer for her kind remarks, and said | she felt sure the committee would sup- , port Mrs Walter Raymond in the sam< loyal manner if she would accept nomination.
