MISSING TRAMPERS.
SEARCH OPERATIONS INTENSIFIED.
GRAVE FEARS FOR LOST PARTY.

MASTERTON, April 25.
The search for the missing trampers in the Tararuas is being redoubled. Six parties are now operating on this side of the ranges.
Another party proceeded this afternoon to investigate smoke seen on the banks of the Ruamahanga river near Mt. Bruce. A permanent base camp is being established on Mitre flats. The weather shows signs of improvement. rain having ceased, although it is still cold. The range.; were visible to-day for the first time for over a week. This should enable more satisfactory work to be accomplished, as hitherto the search operations were greatly hampered on account of weather conditions which were as bad as they cculd be. Grave fears are entertained as to the fate of the missing party on account of the wild weather, accompanied with snow and sleet. SNOW IMPEDES SEARCH. By Telegraoii—Press Association PALMERSTON NORTH. April 25. There is no Sign of the missing trampers on this side of the range. Searchers were handicapped to-day by a fall of a foot of snow at Te Matawai Hut, alternating with rain. A party intends crossing to Mitre Flats in the morning, providing conditions are favourable.
