FAIRLIE LINKS OPENED. On Thursday afternoon the official opening of the Club's new links on Strathconan Park and the Show Grounds took place. There was a large attendance of players and visitors. The president, Mr J. Trotter, extended a welcome to the visitors, and the new and old members of the Club. He said that the Club had been in existence for nearly thirty years, and during all that time they had been indebted to the McLeans and Gillinghams for their links. The time had arrived when they had to look around for other links, and a satisfactory lease had been arranged with the A. and P. Society for the Show/ Grounds and with the Strathconan Park managers for a part of the Park. The Bowling Club pavilion was available for the use of members. Messrs J. Menzies (Glen-iti), and Mr Hughes (Taumaranui), returned thanks on behalf of the visitors, and congratulated the Club on securing such fine and conveniently situated links. Mrs J. Trotter, amidst applause, drove the first ball. A draw was made and mixed foursomes were played. Later in the afternoon all present •were entertained to afternoon tea by Mrs Trotter, wife of the president. The new links, which are situated within five minutes’ walk of the township, should become very popular.
