CHRISTCHURCH STOCK EXCHANGE. LATEST QUOTATIONS. (Special to "The Herald.’’) CHRISTCHURCH. April 24. The Stock Exchange reopened to-day after the Easter vacation. The following quotations were current when business closed this afternoon:—

PLEASANT POINT SALE. GOOD MARKET. The fortnightly market at Pleasant Point was held on Monday last when all classes sold firm at late rates. Fat Cattle.—Abofit 50 head were forward, but for the most part they were lacking in quality, only about half the entry being of best quality. These well-finished sorts sold at about £1 per head better than at late sales, the others remaining unchanged. Prices were:— Best fat steers £5 10s to £6 17s 6d, medium steers £4 5s to £s,* light steers £3 7s 6d to £3 17s 6d; fat heifers £3 10s to £5 17s 6d; fat cows (best) £4 to £5 15s, others from £2; vealers from 15s. Store and Dairy Cattle.—This market was on a level with last week’s sales, prices made being:—Empty cows, 7s to 30s; ordinary 3-year steers to £2 10s; ordinary 2-year steers 30s; 18 months heifers 32 6. In the dairy section there was a strong demand for good springers, good cows close to profit realising from £4 to £7 10s: while ordinary springing heifers made from £2 17s 6d to £3 10s. Fat Lambs.—About 1300 fat lambs met with a very good sale, prices being right up to schedule. Best butchers’ lambs brought up to 14 6. and the | best price paid for lambs suitable for exporters was 13/5. Fat Sheep.—A yarding not as large as at previous sales met with a good sale, and prices were a little ahead cf those ruling last week. As high as 9/9 was paid for a pen of outstanding fat ewes, other lines making from C - to 7/-. The freezing buyers were operating at prices from 4 - to 5 -. The best price paid for fat wethers was 14 1, other sales being from 12 - to 13/-. Store Sheep.—The yarding in this j section was a large one for this time I of year, and values were equal to I late rates. Sales recorded were:— ! Aged ewes. 6d to 26; s.m. '-bred ewes. G - to 7/-; s.m. i-bred ewes, 3 - to 5/-; 3-shear ewes from South. 8 6. 2. 3 and 4-shear ewes of medium quality. 7/9; m.s. lambs, 5/6 to 9 -. according to size and condition: medium ewe lambs. 5 - to 7 8: small 2-tooth ewes 10 2-tooth wethers 10 3. Horses.—About ten draughts came forward, the top price being £36 paid for a 3-year old gelding. An 8-year mare realised £2l: a mare and foal at foot £2l; aged draughts from £5 to £l6. Pigs.—A small yarding was offered, and prices were slightly ahead of those ruling at the previous sale. Slips made from 11/- to 16/-, and weaners from 7 - to 10/-. SPECIAL CATTLE SALE STATION DRAFT AT TEMUKA. A special sale of station-bred cattle was held at Temuka saleyards on Friday last. The line, which comprised approximately 400 head, was the an- j nual draft of Messrs Wigley and Wha- ! lan’s Huxley Gorge station, and Mr j J. W. Preston’s Glenlyon station !

About 150 51 months old Hereford Black Poll and Red Poll cross-calves were included in the sale, and these with the main mob, arrived in excellent condition. Thirteen days was the time occupied in droving from Glenlyon to Temuka and the public freely expressed the opinion that the cattle had been very carefully handled on their long journey. There was a large attendance at the sale, and buyers were present from North Canterbury and Otago. Local gTariers were also well represented. Bidding was very keen, and a complete clearance was effected at satisfactory prices. The following were some of th~ prices realised:— 3i yea: old Hereford bullocks. £5 10s. 2-year old steers to £3, 18-month steers to £2 15s, fat cows £4; 5i months old calves from 25 - to 30/-.
