NORTH END CLUB. SUCCESSFUL OPENING OF SEASON There was a large attendance of visitors at the North End links on Saturday afternoon, when the Club held its opening day. Timaru and Glen-lti Clubs were represented, and golfers from Christchurch, Temuka, and St. Andrews also were present. The weather in the morning was not promising, but just prior to the opening ceremony the rain ceased, and for the remainder of the afternoon conditions were ideal. Many improvements were evident in the course, the greens especially being favourably commented on by the visitors. The morning’s rain softened the surface of the ground, and the fairways generally were in good order. In declaring the Club’s season officially open, the president Mr H. Washer) extended a cordial welcome to the many visitors and also to new members, expressing a hope that they would have a pleasant and successful season. Some improvements had been effected to the course, and under the supervision of Mr I. J. Bradley, the greens and fairways were again in good condition. In parts the grass on the fairways was long, but it was expected that after a few weeks’ play the difficulty would be removed. Before long it was hop3d to have the links in as good condition as they were at the close of last season. Mixed foursomes were then played, the best cards returned being as follows: Mrs Kennedy and C. McKitterick 94 25 69 Mrs Kellett and T. Christianson 96 23 73 Mrs Matthews and I. J.
