UNION PROTEST
SENTENCE OF AGITATORS RESENTED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 21. The General Council of the Trades Union Congress has written to Mr Macdonald protesting against the imprisonment of Tom Mann and E. Llewellyn, describing the case as a travesty of justice and political persecution. They are being punished under obsolete statutes, framed over a century ago for the purpose of the suppression of political opinions, in totally different circumstances from to-day. The Council, while condemning attempts to incite the unemployed to violence, declared that such sentences were likely to imperil public peace, and urges immediate release.
