A PRETTY IDEA

NOVEL DOOR STOPS. Attractive door stops can be made in the form of cottages. Pad a broken brick (a third of a brick is enough) with old stockings; then cut a piece of coloured flannel or linen large enough to' go round the brick bat, standing on end. With black embroidery cotton, work two doors and two •windows on the flannel, so that when it is sewn on the padding a door and a window will show on the opposite sides. Next cut a square of material for the roof, allowing one inch to overlap. Stiffen with cardboard or buckram. Blanketstitch all round and sew on to the top of the brick. Flowers may be worked on to the other padded brick bats, or animals may be appliqued or embroidered. A dainty lady door keeper can be created by attaching a headpiece to the padded brick end and making a dress of taffeta, floral silk, or cretonne.

There are numerous ways of disguising broken bricks, and the novelties sell at bazaars, for the cost of making them is almost nil.
