WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

WASHDYKE BRANCH. Tne monthly meeting of the Washdyke Women’s Institute was held on Thursday, Mrs Glenday presided over an attendance of 42 members. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs Woods on the death of her mother. Mrs G. Paul was elected a nev; member. Mrs Henderson gave an account of her visit to the Birthday Party at Pleasant Point, and Mrs Doak then introduced Miss McAteer, of Timaru, who gave a demonstration on cutting and fitting a frock. A vote of thanks was passed to Mils McAteer for her interesting demonstration. The competitions for the day resulted.—Best vase of flowers, Mrs F. Couper 1. Mrs Burdon 2. Best three over, scones.—Mrs P. Couper 1, Mrs Gaffaney 2. The hostesses for the day were Mesdames L. King. Pearce. Peebles and Misses I. King and D. Morten. PAREORA BRANCH. There was a good attendance at the Pareora Hall recently, when the Women's Institute held a social evening. The evening was spent in games, competitions and dancing. Prices were w'on by Mr and Mrs J. Gibbs, Miss May Richards, Mr Ken McPhail and Mi‘ Prank Barr. Master Bruce Wallace sang during the evening. Music was supplied by Mrs Hoskins, Misses Mary McPhail and C. Small - ridge.
