WINCHESTER.
BASKETBALL CLUB. On Friday afternoon a meeting was held in the school for the purpose of forming a senior girls’ basketball club. There was a good attendance, and Mr J. L. White was elected chairman. After a discussion it was decided to form a club, and the following officers were elected:—President, Mr J. L. White; vice-president, Mrs J. C. McBratney; secretary and treasurer, Miss E. Clarkson; captain, Miss M. M. White; ;vice-captain, Miss M. Spurdon; committee, Misses D. Trumper, D. Philp and J. Deßenzy. The subscription fee was fixed at 2/6. It was decided to join the Town and District Association. Misses M. M. White and E. Clarkson were appointed delegates to the Association. Opening day was fixed for April 13th. TENNIS CLUB. On Saturday afternoon, the Winchester Tennis Club brought the season to a close with a tournament. The afternoon was not an ideal one for playing, owing to a shower of rain which came on at 3 p.m. There were a large number of players, and a most enjoyable time was spent. The winners of the final were Miss M. M. White and J. L. White; runnersup, Miss Edna Scott and V. Shutte. At the conclusion the president (Mr G. Burborough) presented the prizes to the winners. He said the games had been very closely contested, and the handicapping had been very good. He congratulated the winners on their good play. Mr White replied on behalf of the winners. DANCE FOR HALL FUNDS. On Thursday evening the Victoria Hall Committee held a dance for the benefit of the Hall’s funds. There was a good attendance. Music was supplied by a Rangitata orchestra, and extras were played by Miss M. Blissett. Mr W. Jackson was M.C.
