To the Editor of “ The Timaru Herald.” Sir,—ln these days of economic stress throughout the British Empire, we would do well to remember Sir A. Conan Doyle's opinion at the beginning of the Great War: “We shall win, but only by every man, woman, and child doing their utmost.” How true that was we all know. Now, again, it is for every man, woman, and child to do their utmost, even to the extent of again rationing supplies. We Britishers used to have the name of putting our back to the wall, and fighting on. Surely we have not forgotten how to “put a stiff back to a stey (steep) brae.”—l am. etc.. NORTH BRITON.
