OBITUARY.

ADMIRAL W. H. HENDERSON. United Press Association— By Blectrld Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, April 29, The death is announced of Admiral W. H. Henderson. GEORGE STRACHAN. The death occurred recently in Christchurch, after a long illness, of a well-known former Timaruvian, Mr George Strachan. The eldest son of the late Mr James and Mrs Strachan, deceased resided in Timaru for the greater portion of his life, and took a prominent part in athletic sports, both as an active participant and an administrator. A long way above the average as a sprint runner, Mr Strachan was a successful competitor in cash events at Caledonian sports meetings in South Canterbury, and later, on linking up with the amateur club, he represented South Canterbury at a New Zealand championship meeting. Mr Strachan was keenly interested in football, being a member of the Union and other Timaru Clubs, and for some years he was secretary of the South Canterbury Rugby Union, and a selector. Other forms of sport claimed his interest, but it was on the running track and the Rugby field that he was best known. A mercer by trade, he was a member of the staff of Ballantyne's for a long period, and at one time was manager of the New Zealand Clothing Company’s Timaru branch. For a time he was in business here on his own account. Mr Strachan was married in Timaru, and is survived by his widow and a grown-up family.
