HOOK MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB. The annual general meeting of the Hook Miniature Rifle Club was held on Wednesday night, when the president (Mr H. H. Meyer), presided over a fair attendance of members. The annual report and balance sheet were read and adopted. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to the family of the late Mr A. Cochrane. I It was resolved that the amount of | the subscription and the length of ! the season should remain the same as last year. It was also decided to ! commence the season with Winchester bullets, the incoming secretary to make inquiries regarding ~R " brand bullets. Before vacating the chair, Mr Meyer said he had derived great pleasure from his position as president, as members were such a fine body to work with. Owing to other urgent business he could not see his way to accept office for a further term, but he would willingly do what he could for the Club. Mr C. Rose said that it was very much to be regretted that Mr Meyer's services as president would be lost to the Club, as he did not think a better man could be procured for the position. He moved that Mr Meyer be elected an honorary life member, in recognition of his services. The motion was carried by acclamation, and Mr Meyer briefly returned thanks. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr J. Bitchener. M.P.; president, Mr H. G. Rathgen; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs G. Alexander and C. Rose: honorary members. Messrs W. Medlicott. S. It was decided to hold a practice shoot on April 13 and to hold the first official shoot on April 20. WAR SOUVENIRS. With a view to promoting the sale of poppies on Poppy Day a collection of souvenirs of the Great War is at present displayed in a stationer’s window in Queen Street. The collection is said to be one of the most complete of any privately owned in the Dominion, and is the property of Rev. W. Bramwell Scott, late Chaplain to the Forces. Included are samples of practically all denominations of note, silver and nickel currency in use amongst the various belligerents, with side arms such as were affected by German officers on the Western Front, Mills bombs, war decorations (including samples of the First and Second Class Iron Crosses), a sample of the medal struck "In honour of the sinking of the Lusitania,” soldier’s pay books, a Bible partially perforated by machine gun bullets, and the ribbons worn by recipients of war honours in the opposing forces during the campaign. Accompanying the collection are maps showing the areas operated in by various forces during hostilities. The collection revived many memories amongst those who participated in the activities between the years of 1914 and 1918.
