Hindu-Moslem Clashes. NEGOTIATIONS HAMPERED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received April 5, 5.5 p.m.) CALCUTTA, April 4. Clashes between Hindus and Moslems further hampered the negotiations between the leaders of both communities, with the object of presenting an agreed programme before the forthcoming Round Table Conference in London. Mahatma Gandhi declared that he is determined not to go to London until the communal leaders reach a settlement. Mahatma Gandhi’s medical advisers order him to take immediate rest as his health has been shattered after the strain of the past two months. The attempt of Congress supporters to carry Mr Gandhi’s photograph in the sacred Juggernaut car at a Hindu festival in the village of Pedvadampalli, near Madras, resulted in Congress men being fiercely attacked by devout Hindus. The police had to fire to disperse the rioters, two of whom were killed. Several police were injured, and one is missing. SENTENCE OF DEATH. MORE RIGOROUS LAWS IN INDIA. DELHI, April 3. Two villagers, in the province of Behar and Orissa, were sentenced to death on a charge of murdering a boy as a sacrifice to Kali, the Hindu goddess of power. The men, who practised sorcery, lured the boy into the jungle on the festival night and beheaded him, throwing the body into a well.
