SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. By Telegraph—Presn Association BLENHEIM, April 5. The South Island rifle championships opened on Friday, but only service matches were completed, owing to heavy rain. The weather conditions were not favourable in the early part of the morning, but improved later. Some excellent scores were recorded in several matches. Canterbury competitors were very successful. The Otago Match was won by Rifleman Bauerle (Ashburton) with 49. Hodge (Sydenham) was second with 48, and Ure (Invercargill Guards) was third with 47. The Tyros was won by Sandford (Christchurch) with 45, Bryden (Kaiapoi) being second with 45, and Cook (Waikaia) third with 45. The Territorials was won by Tattersfield (Kiwi) with 44. Blackwood (Timaru) being second with 44, and Jones (Kiwi) third with 43. The Service Match was won by Potter (Dunedin) with 43, Macwilliams (Invercargill) being second with 41, and Mason (Christchurch) third with 37. The North Otago match, was won by Rifleman Crimp (Christchurch) with 48, Black (Timaru) being second with 48, and Tattersfield (Kiwi) third with 48. The Tyros was won by Hull (Timaru) With 46, Cochrane (Gore) being second with 45 and Neill (Christchurch) third with 45. In the Territorials, Blackwood (Timaru) was first with 45, Hoseit (Dunedin) second with 44. and Lieut. McGill (Dunedin) third with 43. The South Canterbury match was won by Rifleman Adams (Invercargill Guards) with 47. Wilson (Invercargill) being second with 46. and Bauerle (Ashburton) third with 46. In the Tyros Crossan (Goodwood) was first with 43, Whitehead (Kiwi) second with 43, and Hull (Timaru) third with 43. In the Territorials Thom (Sydenham) was first with 41, Tattersfield (Kiwi) second with 40, and Lieut. McGill (Dunedin) third with 40. The Last Try Match was won by Foden (Timaru) with 44, Carmichael (Timaru) 43 was second, and Smith (Oamaru) third with 42. The leading Kaitangata aggregates are: Rifleman Bauerle (Ashburton), 140, Hodge (Sydenham) 140, Crimp (Christchurch) 138.
