BOY SCOUTS NOT FAVOURED.
A Militant Organisation. LABOUR CONFERENCE DECISION. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, March 20. On the recommendation of the special Labour Army Committee, the Labour Conference passed a resolution for the Immediate boycott of all firms allegedly forcing employees to join the All-for-Australia League. The Conference also, at the suggestion of the Education Committee, decided to ask for the immediate abolition of Empire Day, saluting the flag, and the weekly loyalty pledge in public schools, also the removal of the present checks on the importation of literature. The Boy Scouts were attacked as a militant organisation, and the Chief Secretary, Mr M. Gosling, was criticised for attending the official reception to Lord Baden-Powell. “When we see the Education Committee Chairman <Mr McNamara) and the Labour Minister so far forgetting the ideals of our movement as to give a pat on the back to a man who is the symbol of this incipient Fascist movement, it is time we called a halt.”
