During a heavy snow storm, th® steamer Hera, of 1080 tons, ran ashor® at the Cliffs, near Hammerfest, th® northernmost town in Europe, and was pounded to pieces. An officer swam ashore with a lif® line. Fifty-six passengers and the crew were saved. Six Were drowned. The survivors staggered into a village after a terrible march acroa® mountains and ice in a snow storm, in which another died.
