ROWING.
EIGHT-OAR CHAMPIONSHIP. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, March 20. Prospects for the inter-provincial eight-oar championship of New Zealand, which will be contested by crews representing Auckland, Marlborough, Canterbury, and Otago provinces appear to be very bright, for there is every indication of settled weather to morrow. Auckland have entered, the lightest crew in the contest, but supporters of tlie northern province feel confident that their men will give a goou account of themselves. The Marlborough men have already had a few spins on the harbour, and give every indication of having undergone thorough training. The Canterbury representatives have not as yet had an opportunity of trying the water, but their chances are favoured by a large section of the rowing fraternity. The Otago crew is the strongest entered by the province for this race, and local enthusiasts are confident that the trophy will be retained for another yea*r Should the weather turn to southerly Auckland and Marlborough, who hold inside positions, will have the best course, but present indications point to a light easterly, in which event no one crew will be favoured by the course.
