CELTIC CLUB. The annual meeting of the Celtic Football Club was held on Thursday evening, Mr J. Rosevear presiding over an attendance of fifty members. The annual report referred to the great loss sustained by the Club, in the departure of the Rev. Father Minehan for Australia. Father Minehan had taken great interest in the Club, and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Rugby code. The Club had four teams in the competitions, and although not highly placed, all the teams displayed great keenness and good sportsmanship. The Club was greatly indebted to Dean Holley for the kindly interest he took in activities of the club. The committee also recorded their thanks to Messrs D. Mellor, G. F. Doyle, F. D’Arcy, R. Casey, J. Baxter, J. Coffey and J. G. Venning. The annual dance had proved a great success, and to the efforts of the lady supporters much of the success was due. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Dean Holley; president, Mr J. Rosevear; vice-presidents (the same as last season); treasurer, Mr M. J. Angland; hon. secretary, Mr M. Daly: committee, Messrs D. Hertnon, L. Daly, L. Collins, J. Delury, P. Roper and L. Fountaine; auditor. Mr P. Cronin; delegates to the S.C.R.U., Messrs D. Hertnon and J. Rosevear. Ten new members were elected. Correspondence was received from the South Canterbury Rugby Union, concerning the Star Club's remit, to be discussed at the annual meeting of delegates, regarding representation on the Management Committee. Mr M. McAteer moved that the Club’s delegates support the remit. He contended that each senior club, should have representation on the Committee.

Mr L. Daly seended the motion. Messrs Roper and Fountaine opposed the motion.

Mr D. Hertnon also opposed the motion, pointing out that the control of the game had not suffered in the past, under the system of e’ccting the Management Committee at ' annual meeting of delegates. Mr M. Angland speaking in support of the motion, said that direct representation from the senior clubs would make for better control, and would entitle club representatives to openly place before the Committee their club's views on any matter. The Star Club, had suffered under the present system, the club having no representation. Should the remit be passed all senior clubs would be protected, by having equal right of representation. Mr Rosevear said he was in favour of the motion as, having served on associations such as the Cricket Association, where direct representation from the clubs was the method of electing the governing body, the control of the sport had proved more satisfactory to the clubs. The speaker pointed out that to have the clubs working in a harmonious manner was essential for the success of the game. The motion was carried, with few dissentients. Mr Rosevear moved:—“That the club’s delegates be instructed to nominate Mr H. H. Fraser, as president of the Rugby Union.'’ The chairman speaking In support of his motion, referred to the excellent record of service rendered by Mr Fraser to the sport. To allow Mr Fraser to retire would, in the speaker's opinion, be a retrograde step, and not in the best interests of the game. The motion was passed by acclamation. The following coaches were appointed:—Senior, Mr J. Hayhurst; junior, Mr C. Dwan; third, Mr L. Collins; fourth, Mr P. Houlihan; fifth grade, Mr Goddard. Opening day was fixed for the 28th, at the Club's ground.
