ATHLETICS.

BAPTIST HARRIER CLUB. The president (Rev. C. W. Duncumb), presided over a good muster of members at the first annual meeting of the Baptist Harriers, which was held in the Lascelles Hall. The secretary’s report reviewed the season’s activities. Early in the year the club, with the other town clubs, journeved to Waimatc and participated in a good run. and were well entertained. There was a good representation in the Temuka-Timaru road race, and although no members were successful, all finished in a gruelling race. Later, the Inter-Club Championship provided another splendid race, and the club gained third place, which for a small club was quite a good ; performance. The Methodist Club win- ; ners were congratulated on fielding , such a fine team. Later, the club’s i own championship and sealed handi- | cap race was held over a 6-mile course. This was a fine nm. and it was gratifying that the captain. R. C. Holmes, won the challenge cup for the championship for the first time. The winner of the sealed handicap was I. Anderson, who ran a very good race. Throughout the season runs were held every Saturday, and the majority were from the homes of friends of the club, and those given by organisations of the Baptist Church. All proved enjoyable and were well attended. Thanks were passed to Mr D. Clark for his services as trainer for the year, and expressions of appreciation were tendered the many friends of the club who opened their homes and entertained the harriers so well. It was chiefly through their efforts that the club experienced such a good season. The work of the president and the enthusiasm of the club’s captain. R. C. Holmes, were also recognised with appreciation. The statement of the club’s finances was then presented and this, together with the report was adopted. The Rev. C. W. Duncumb expressed his desire to see the club have another successful season, and assured the members of his support in every way. ( secretary. L. Woodward and H. Whit- i worth: trainer: D. Clark. It was decided to hold the opening ; run on April 11. SOUTH CANTERBURY AMATEUR CLUB.

At a meeting of the Committee of the South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club the following were in attendance: —Mr A. Jackson (in the chair), Messrs Cameron, Eaton, McArthur, Mcßae and the secretary. In regard to certificates for championship events, the secretary was instructed to take steps to procure certificates locally. The sub-committee reported their activities, regarding trophies, and the Committee expressed gratification at the splendid support given to the club. It was agreed that suitable acknowledgement with complimentary tickets be sent to donors of trophies. The secretary was instructed to write to the Christchurch Centre to ascertain how many Christchurch men were likely to be competing. Accounts to the value of £3 9s 6d were passed for payment. The secretary advised that difficulty had been experienced in locating the address of the present holder of the Wallace Cup. but he was pleased io report that the same was now on its way to Timaru. The question of the Mcßae Cup also came up, and this matter was left in the hands of the secretary and Mr Mcßae. The committee accepted with thanks Mr C. W. Cameron’s offer to display the trophies.. It was decided to present the Wallace Cup and the Mcßae Cup at the championship. ( The treasurer was instructed to report at next meeting on the membership of the club, with particular reference to unfinancial members. Mr A. Jackson agreed to • take in hand entries from the Boys’ High School, the secretary to get in touch with the Ashburton and Waimate. The Committee confirmed that H. J. Eaton had won both the Wallace Cup and the Mcßae Cup. and that J. • O'Leary, K. Hall, T. C. Morrison were the runners up.
