FAIRLIE.
BOWLING CLUB. A successful bowling season is now drawing to a close. Fine weather has given the players ample bowls, and the green, thanks to sterling work by Mr T. Stamp, has been all that could be desired, and is still looking very well. The following players took part In the finals of the various competitions— Champion Pairs —W. Barwood (s) and H. Bateman defeated C. Boulter (b) and F. Martin. Handicap Doubles—P. Carlton (s) and C. Stamp (scratch) defeated W. Barwood (s) and W. Dore (4). Singles—P. Carlton (2) defeated H. Carlton (scratch). The members are looking forward to a visit from some of the town teams, and the green will be kept open over the Easter holidays.
ST. PATRICK’S CONCERT. St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated in Fairlie by a national concert and dance. The Aorangi Hall which was specially decorated was packed with an enthusiastic audience. The programme was as follows—Rev. Father Outtrim, songs, “The Snowy Breasted Pearl,” “Widow Malone,” "Molly Bawn,” and “The Rose of Tralee”; Miss Lilian McDonald, “Ere the Long Roll of Ages,” “Macushla,” “Carmena,” and “The Fairy Tales of Ireland”; Mr Geo. Andrews, “The Minstrel Boy,” “A Little Bit of Heaven,” “Mickey's Advice,” “Three for Jack,” and “The Song of the Clock”; Miss Gwynneth Hughes, “Danny Boy,” “Love’s Old Sweet Song,” “Hill’s of Donegal,” and “Farewell.* Duets were sung by Mies McDonald and Rev. Father Outtrim, “Erin, the Tear and the Smile,” “Love’s Young Dream,” “Has Sorrow ’Thy Young Days Shaded.” Miss Mary Kelly contributed the following elocutionary items: “Tit For Tat,” “Kitty of Coleraine,” “A Little Irish Mother.” “Mr Briggs Has His Hair Cut,” and “The Giggles.” Violin solos were rendered by Miss Mena Spring as follows: “Irish Aire,” “Galop,” and “Beethoven’s Minuet.” National and fancy dances were given by Miss Kathleen Plever. The accompaniments were played by Miss Gertrude Spring and Rev. Father Kimbell, and music for dancing was played by Piper R. Braddick. At the conclusion of the concert Father Outtrim returned thanks for the very fine attendance, and for the generous manner in which the audience had received the items. Father Outtrim specially thanked the performers for coming out to assist in the celebrations of the feast of the patron Saint of Ireland. After a supper had been served by the ladies, dancing was continued till the early hours, music being supplied by Miss Annie Angland. Extras were contributed by Misses Abbie Angland, Sullivan and Clarke, Mr D. Angland, and Piper Braddick.
