FAST FIGHTING ’PLANE
DISPLAY NEAR LONDON. British Official Wireless RUGBY, March 17. Several Argentine airmen witnessed a remarkable display near London, by Mr G. S. Staniland, a well-known British pilot, in a new Fairy Firefly machine, which is probably the fastest fighting aeroplane in the world. Mr Staniland swooped almost to the ground at 380 miles an hour, then, turning the machine sharply climbed' to 20,000 feet in ten minutes. An Argentine aviator, Captain Catex, also tested the machine and, although it was a strange craft to him, he too looped and stunted with it after a few minutes only. The Firefly has a 500 horse-power Rolls-Royce engine.
