SHOT AT DAWN.
STRONG WORDS BY MAGISTRATE By Telegraph—Press Association NAPIER, March 10. “Speaking as a father and not as a Magistrate, I want to tell you that I consider this type of crime so despicable that had I discovered it I should have liked to have had power to have ordered the perpetrator to be shot, and I would have been up at dawn to see the sentence carried out,” said Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M., addressing Cyril Dixon, of Christchurch, on a charge of stealing a suitcase and clothes, whom he sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. He ordered also the extension of probation till accused reached 21 years.
