BOXING
CAMPBELL-MACDONALD CONTEST. Great interest is being shown in Thursday night’s contest between Alan Campbell (heavy weight champion of New Zealand), and Lachie Macdonald (ex middleweight champion of Australia). Campbell had his final workout yesterday afternoon, when he boxed the full fifteen rounds. The title-holder is in first-class form, and and should give an attractive and aggressive display. Macdonald gave an exhibition last evening in Harry Gunn's gymnasium, before close on two hundred spectators. The audience was treated to a great display, the Aucklander being in fine form, and
boxing with great skill and speed over the full distance, against Wallace, Wade, Currie, and McKay (South Canterbury amateur champions), and Harry Gunn. The three rounds between Macdonald and Gunn, was a great exhibition of 6kilful boxing. Judged on the final work-outs of the men, the contest should be a thrilling one, as it is evident both contestants will waste little time in shadow sparring or rushing into clinches. Owing to the large number of visitors who will be present, the big bout will commence at 9 p.m. The Association decided last evening that all schoolboys, without escorts will be accommodated in the stalls. Special seating accommodation has been set aside in the dress circle for lady patrons.
