NORTHERN UNION RESULTS. United Preas Association —By Ele Ctrl o Tel egraph—Copy r lab t (Received March 9, 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 8. The results of the Northern Union football cup matches are as follows: Third Round. Warrington beat Wigan Highfleld, 17—3. York defeated Salford, 12—2. St. Helens beat Broughton Rangers, B—7. Halifax drew with Oldham, 2—2. ZINGARI CLUB. The annual report of the Zingarl Football Club states that although last season was not as successful as it might have been, the committee wished to congratulate the Club on the high standard of sportsmanship shown by all grades. The season commenced with a friendly game against Fairlie, the country club running out victors after a closely-contested game. During Easter, the senior team played the annual fixture against Linwood, at Christchurch, the northern team securing a victory and winning the shield. Their hospitality was very much appreciated. Five teams were entered in the local competition, one team defaulting early in the season. Owing to injuries, the club lost many prominent players. The committee wished to congratulate the fourth grade team who, by playing fast, open football, succeeded in winning the respective banner. The following fourth grace players gained representative honours: —King, Spence, Low, Johnson, Cowles, Ennis and Shanks. All teams entered seven-a-side tournaments, but with no success. As in past years, four cups were presented to Timaru schools for competition; Mr J. Wilkinson gave a medal to the most improved player, J. Cowles, in the fourth grade. The social side was well maintained, and honour was paid to Club members who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War by placing a wreath on the Memorial on Anzac Day. Thanks were due to all who rendered assistance to the Club, especially the ladies who so ably assisted the social side, and Mr King, senr. (fourth grade coach).
