Dr. M. H. Watt, Deputy-Director of Health, succeeds Dr. T. H. A. Valintine as Director-General of Health
An Ottawa message reports .that the Prime Minister of Canada (Mr Bennett), announced the appointment of Mr W. D. Herridge, an Ottawa lawyer, to be Minister to Washington. Mr Herridge has a distinguished war record.
At a meeting, of supporters of the United Political Party in Christchurch, the chairman. Mr W Hayward, staged that as he had been selected by tne Christchurch Citizens' Association as its candidate for the Mayoralty, he wished to resign the chairmanship of the committee of the party. He wished, he said, to go before the electors free of political ties. His resignation was received with regret, those present wishing him success In his campaign, and promising their support. Mr J. u. Cunningham was elected chairman
