QUESTION OF RENTAL. INCREASES By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, March 5. Very heavy increases in rentals of houses leased to railway servants by the Department have been brought under the notice of Mr A. E. Ansell. member for Port Chalmers. _ The increases in some cases amounting to as much as 300 per cent. Instances of the increases which came into force on February 1 are as follows (new rental in brackets): —7s 6d <22s 6d), 15s < 33s 9dh 15s ( 44s 6d). Ss 6d (24 6dh 6s 6d (19s), 9s 8d (28s 8d). 10s 6d (24s 6d>. Mr Ansell communicated with the Minister on the subject, and has received a reply stating that the increases were, imposed as a result oi the Royal Commission’s recommendations. ‘and after very close investigation It is not considered that the men are being harshly dealt with Mr Ansell adds that he intends to voice a protest in the House.
