OBITUARY.
EARL RUSSELL. United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, March 4. Earl Russell died suddenly at Marseilles yesterday, aged 66. He had been recuperating in the south of France after his recent illness. He was about to return when he was overcome by a fatal attack. Earl Russell was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport in the Labour Government in 1929. Later in the same year he succeeded Dr Drummond Shiels as Under Secretary for the India Office. His brother, Mr Bertrand Russell, the famous mathematician, and the author of many philosophical works, succeeds to the peerage. F. E. BOWEN. By Teleeraph—Press Association PALMERSTON N., March 5. The deat i occurred in a private hospital of Mr F. E. Bowen, a member oi Uie staff of Messrs Dalgety and Coy., Napier, who was v siting the firm’s Hastings office at the time of the earthquake, receiving severe injuries, necessitating the amputation of a foot. He was brought to Palmerston North on the Thursday following the earthquake.
