FOOTBALL.

STAR CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Star Football Club was held last evening. There was a good attendance of members, and Mr A. G. Knowles (president) occupied the chair. Before proceeding with ordinary business, the president welcomed the members to the meeting. He saw a lot of old faces among them, and he was pleased to see so many young fellows present. The Club had always done fairly well in the past few years, and althugh matters appeared as if they might be a little quiet this season, he hoped this would not be the case] It only remained for the members to put some enthusiasm into the affairs of the Club, and they would come out with flying colours, as they had in the past. He referred to the effort being made to raise funds for injured players, and asked members to assist the Club in this direction.

The report (as published In the “Herald”) was taken as read. The balance sheet, showing a credit balance of £66 4s sd, and cash in hand £5 ls-9d was presented. Tire president, in formally moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, said they were down a little in their finances compared with the previous year. This was only to be expected, still they had some money. But what was the use of having a lot of money if they did not have the players. They wanted to get as many players as possible to keep the Club going. With respect to the subscriptions paid last year, Mr Knowles said that these had not been quite so many as in the previous year. It was every member’s duty to pay his subscription, and it would not then for anyone to “dip.” There was always a few who should pay, but who did not. The motion was seconded and carried.

The following new members were elected:—Dr Wells, Messrs T. Smith, M. Satterthwaite, A. Adkins, A. Campbell, J. Douglas, J. Turnbull, A. Craig, D. Mcßeath, F. Lindsay and J. Kitchen. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Dr Kingston; president, Mr A. G. Knowles; vice-presidents, Dr G. H. Ussher and Messrs R. F. Provan, J. Gibson, H. Dunn, A. Annand, A. McLean, J. Stewart, E. C. Ayres, C. Home. W. Cumming, F. Moore, A. Tyson, T. Seaton, F. H. Shell, J. A. Norrie, J. Baxter, G. W. Moorehead, H. Fraser, J. Wilson, O. Bracefield, J. Coaches: Senior, Mr C. B. Hardingham; junior, Mr P. Chamberlain; third grade, Mr W. Bennett; fourth grade, Mr J. Lewis; fifth, Mr A. Ford. Hon. secretary, Mr J. Rogers; teams secretary, Mr J. Roddick; hon. treasurer, Mr J. Lillico. Selection Committee: Seniors, the coach, captain and vice-captains; juniors, the coach and team captain and vice-captain; and the coach, team captain and vice-captain in each of the lower grades. Mr W. Cumming moved as a remit to the annual meeting of the South Canterbury Rugby Union that:—“The Management Committee should consist of a representative from each senior club, such representative to be nominated by the club concerned, together with one member representing the Sub-Unions, one member representing the clubs other than senior clubs, and one member representing the School Sports Association.” Mr Cumming said that although the Star Club entered the largest number of teams it had not had any representation on the Union Committee last, year. In his opinion every senior club should have at least one representative on the Rugby Union Committee. Mr Fraser, who seconded the motion, said there certainly was argument both for and against a change, and he thought there was more to be said for it. He thought a senior club should have representation on the Committee. In the past this Club and other clubs had not had representation. The motion was earned unanimous-

ly. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the president for presiding, and to the Press.
